Betty Arline Yount Spencer

Born December 28, 1926 in Akron, OH she was the daughter of the late Joseph Herman and Emma F. Benker Yount. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Spencer, a grandson, Drew Spencer and a sister.

Betty retired after 32 years as a kindergarten teacher from Concordia Christian Day School, where she had spent 6 years as acting principal and was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Betty had volunteered at the front desk at Catawba Valley Medical Center for 16 years. She loved gardening and playing the piano for Chapel on Sundays at the Lutheran Home, and she also played for many assisted living facilities and nursing homes throughout the area.

Survivors include her sons, Dale Spencer and wife, Deborah and Alan Spencer and wife, Beth; grandchildren, Robert Spencer and wife, Cameron, Curtis Spencer and wife, Airiel, Diana Spencer and husband, Laine Cloninger; and great grandchildren, Cade Spencer and Carsyn Spencer and a brother, Herman Yount.

A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Concordia Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dr. David Ludwig and Rev. Craig Schultz will officiate and burial will follow at Conover City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday at the church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concordia Christian Day School, Scholarship Fund, 215 5th Avenue SE, Conover, NC 28613.

The Spencer family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home in Conover.
