An Indianapolis native, Pete was born October 25, 1939 to Walter Scott and Ethel Lyons Stalnaker. He was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, received his bachelor degree from the former Indiana Central College in Indianapolis and earned his master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. Pete had been employed as an engineer at Major Tool and L & E Engineering, both in Indianapolis. He most recently had worked as an independent contractor with Stalnaker Engineering. Pete was a member of Mensa and loved astronomy and traveling. He was an avid Indiana University basketball fan, golfer and enjoyed membership in the Hole-In-One Club. Pete also was a member of Southport Lodge F.& A.M. #270, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and Murat Shrine.
Pete is survived by his wife, Judy Hofmann, with whom he had shared his life for almost 28 years; his children: Lisa Shampine of South Carolina, Walter Scott Stalnaker III and his wife, Nancy of Greenwood; Kristi Kurtz and her husband, Carl of South Carolina; seven grandchildren: Michael, Andrew, Garrett, Grant and Griffin Stalnaker, Jannie and William Kurtz; his sister: Deborah Andrusk of Indianapolis; his mother-in-law: Elsie Hofmann of Connersville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, including Nancy and John Strong of Connersville who assisted with his care; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Stalnaker who was killed in action during the Vietnam War.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Mark Powell officiating. Interment will follow in Springersville Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12 noon Saturday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (https://support.pdf.org/).
