Tom was born on November 3, 1941 in Morristown, NJ to Anne and Emil Molnar. Tom was the second oldest of 4 children and graduated from Morristown High School in Morristown, NJ. After graduating from Fordham University, Tom started a 40 year career as the proprietor of Molnar Pharmacy in Morristown, NJ. Molnar Pharmacy was started by Tom’s father, Emil, in the 1940s and taken over by Tom in the 1970s. Tom ran the pharmacy until he and his wife, Mary Sue, retired to Pawleys Island in 2004.
Tom and Mary Sue moved to Morris Plains in 1971 and loved raising their two sons in the Parker Drive neighborhood. They made many life-long friends with whom they played tennis, ping pong, cards or just enjoyed talking on quiet summer evenings. They moved to Morris Township in 1986 where Tom had a chance to garden and developed a passion for growing roses.
In retirement, Tom picked up golf after retiring to Pawleys Island where he and Mary Sue made many new and wonderful friends through their community and church. Those same friends were tremendously supportive during Tom’s 8-year struggle with Pulmonary Fibrosis and subsequent lung transplant nearly 6 years ago. After Mary Sue’s passing, Tom also spent time in Hopkinton, NH where the community could not have been more welcoming.
Tom loved serving his customers as a pharmacist for four decades, many of whom he counted as lifelong friends. Tom was happiest around people, and even when his health was failing his eyes would light up whenever he entered a room full of people. He inevitably had a kind word, story or joke to share whether meeting old friends or making new ones. He will be missed deeply by his family.
Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary Sue (Howe) Molnar, sister Anne Marie Molnar, father Emil J. Molnar and mother Anne (Walsh) Molnar.
Tom Molnar is survived by his children Tim Molnar and his wife Teri of Mendham, NJ, Dennis Molnar and wife Dr. Beth Mayland of Hopkinton, NH, 7 grandchildren, brothers Joseph Molnar of Morristown, NJ and Richard Molnar of Santa Fe, NM as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
No calling hours have been scheduled at this time. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Abbey located on the campus of Delbarton School at 230 Mendham Road, Morristown, NJ on September 30 at 12:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Slusser Center, 330 Main Street, Hopkinton, NH 03229 or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation via online tribute. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bennett Funeral Home in Concord, NH. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.bennettfuneral.com for the Molnar family.
