James A Rogers Jr passed away peacefully on March 24 after a short and courageous battle with stomach cancer. Jim was born in Binghamton, NY on August 22, 1946 to James A Rogers and Ruth (Cahill) Rogers. He will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered.
After graduating from Concord High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the USMC Military Police in Portsmouth, NH. After completing his service, Jim joined the Concord Police Department, serving as an officer for several years. He graduated from Keene State College in 1980. He began his career in the insurance business working for NH Insurance Company. His career as a commercial underwriter began at Merchants Insurance and eventually lead him to Davis and Towle and then Cross Insurance before he retired in 2011.
Jim was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and University of Alabama football and later developed a love for ice hockey. He completed the crossword puzzle each day, loved history, and could be heard shouting Jeopardy responses nightly. Jim was also known for his quick wit, humor, and sweet tooth. Lake Winnipesaukee was a special place for Jim. He spent many summers at his family’s house on Little Bear Island as a child and later worked on the lake as a Marine Patrol Officer. More recently, he and his family enjoyed summer weekends boating on the lake. Always generous, he supported numerous charities for years, most of which focused on helping families and children.
Jim married the love of his life, Denise, and together they enjoyed more than 47 years of marriage. Together, they welcomed two children, Caitlin Rogers Connelly and Levi Rogers.
Jim is survived by his wife, Denise (Scott) Rogers, daughter Caitlin (Rogers) Connelly and her husband, Dan of Concord; son Levi Rogers and his wife, Sarah Morris of Rowley, MA; grandchildren Ruth, Eleanor and Edward Connelly and Asa and Emersen Rogers; his sisters Ruth Reilly, Jacqueline Clarke and Patricia Hicks and her husband Douglas Hicks; as well as many nieces and nephews, of whom he was incredibly proud. Family was Jim's greatest source of joy, and he cherished every moment he spent with them.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 11 from 5 to 7 pm at Bennett Funeral Home located at 209 N. Main Street Concord, NH. A graveside service will take place on Friday, April 12 at 10 am at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord, NH.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tutwiler Clinic and Outreach, 205 Alma Street, Tutwiler, MS. 38963-0462 (tutwilerclinic.org), an organization Jim supported for over 30 years.
