Wallis F. Calaway Sr., U.S. Army Veteran, age 98, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024. He was born February 7, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Harold and Rose Marie Calaway. Wally lived his life to its fullest, from his time serving in World War II where he rose to the rank of Sargent at age 19 to working at Chevrolet Brookpark for 36 years, where he began by loading boxcars to retiring as General Manager of Material Control. Wally's true love was cabinet making and woodworking. He used his creative talent to design and build additions to several homes as well as redesigning kitchens and rec rooms. He was extremely creative and could draw and build a cabinet per request. Upon retirement Wally spent his time caring for his large yard, enjoying his family and traveling. In his later years, Wally's creative talents were expressed in his paintings. He adored his family and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. Wally was liked by everyone who knew him. His memory will live on through his art and those who knew him. Wallis is survived by sons; Wallis F. (Jennifer) Calaway Jr, David A. (Renay) Calaway, grandsons; Michael, Peter, Jacob and Brenton Calaway, great grandsons; Rory, Samuel, Lucas, Benjamin, Matthew and William Calaway, dear friend and companion, Marilyn O’Connor, along with other family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by, his loving wife of 56 years, S. Darlene Calaway, and brothers; Ronald, James and Harold Calaway.
He was a bright presence in people’s lives and will be missed deeply. A memorial service will be held at Wesley Ridge Chapel, 2225 Taylor Park Dr., Reynoldsburg, OH 43068 on Sunday, November 24th , 2024 at 2:00PM. Family will be having a graveside service, Monday, November 25th, 2024, at 1:15PM at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273.
