Stanley L. Sammet, age 67, passed away Monday, November 11, 2024 at his home in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on October 11, 1957 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to the late Theodore and Ethel (Ibach) Sammet.
Stan grew up outside Rothsville, Pennsylvania on his parents’ farm and attended Warwick High School, graduating in 1976. He moved to Columbus in 1977, and received a bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from the Ohio Institute of Technology in 1981. He had a long career as a software engineer, retiring from Defense Finance and Accounting Service in May 2024.
Those who knew Stan will remember him for his inviting personality and eagerness to help others. He would strike up a friendly conversation with anyone, and could often be found fixing a friend’s computer or sharing advice about a home project. He loved to feed people, whether that was helping make pot pie, sharing his dinner with neighbors and coworkers, or assisting with the family reunion corn roast. Some of his favorite times were spent getting together with friends and family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Stan enjoyed the great outdoors. From his younger days at the family hunting cabin, to spending weekends with his kids around Ohio, he loved camping. He also looked forward to fishing and swimming in the ocean on family trips to Chincoteague. He was known to invite his buddies over to play quoits in the backyard, or to share his season tickets to the Blue Jackets. He was an avid sports fan, especially loving to watch hockey with his kids.
Stan will be greatly missed by his brother Greg (Barb) Sammet and sister Judy (Barry) Kline; children Julia (Angelo) Costanzo, Ellen (Kyle) Klein, and Ted Sammet; and his grandchildren Leo, Luca and Calla Costanzo. He is also survived by three nieces and a nephew, as well as several cousins whom he loved dearly.
