Richard "Dick" D. Anderson, 83, of Columbus, passed away on March 22, 2022 at The Forum at Knightsbridge. He was born on June 7, 1938 to the late Ralph H. and Naomi (Whitcomb) Anderson. Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Molly (Morris) Anderson. Dick is survived by his children Shepherd (Gilah), Matthew (Heather, partner), and Michael (Carol); grandchildren Shawn (Mackenzie), James, Mary, Katelyn, and Benjamin; great-grandson Nash; and brothers Ralph "Andy", Dennis (MaryAnn), and David (Pam).
Dick grew up in Grandview Heights, attending Grandview High School where he was a star halfback on the football team, a track state champion in the 880 yard dash, and a member of the National Honor Society. He worked summer jobs at Anderson Concrete starting from "the ground up." He then went to Hanover College in Indiana where he played football and ran track. It was at Hanover that he met Molly. After graduating and spending time in France with the Ohio Air National Guard, he returned home, married Molly on September 1, 1962, and started a family. Dick was a loving husband to Molly and an active father to their boys. When he wasn't coaching little league football or baseball, he was jogging, walking, or working on their property in Gahanna. He enjoyed trips to Marco Island in Florida with Molly and trips to Beaver Island in Ontario with all his family. He was a dedicated blood donor and never missed an Ohio State football game. He loved his family, especially the youngest members. He also loved his Labrador Retrievers and his orange pickup trucks.
Dick enjoyed working for Anderson Concrete and Buckeye Ready-Mix, his family's businesses. In particular, he cherished the personal relationships he developed with co-workers through the decades. He was involved in the Ohio Ready Mix Concrete Association, the National Ready Mix Concrete Association, and the Ohio Trucking Association for many years. He started in the concrete business in 1953 and retired in 2003 after 50 years of service.
He will be remembered as a kind, fair, funny, and fun-loving friend to everyone, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 27 from 1pm-5pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna. A funeral service will be held Monday at Mifflin Presbyterian Church at 10:30AM with Pastor David Bubb officiating. A private interment will follow for the immediate family. Contributions in Dick's name may be made to the Central Ohio Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association or the Central Ohio Region of the Red Cross.
