Phyllis Rose Shaffer, age 88, of Columbus, Ohio passed away December 7, 2011. She was born July 22, 1923 in New Castle, PA to the late Pasquale and Julia (DeMacy) DiThomas. A successful and hardworking bookkeeper for many years with Schottenstein Department Store, she was a member of the American Business Women’s Association and received the honor of “Woman of the Year” by Voyager Chapter of ABWA. She will be remembered as a world traveler, a wonderful cook and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by husbands, Clyde E. McFarland and Myron Shaffer and siblings, Roseanna DiThomas, Lucy Ann Houston, Albina (Pete) Piccirillo and Bartholomew DiThomas. Phyllis is survived by her beloved daughters, Kathleen A. (Gary) Spang and Patricia Denman; grandson, Martin (Katie) Spang and great-granddaughter, Lilliana Mae Spang. Family will receive friends 4-7pm Friday, December 9, 2011 at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH 43232. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am Saturday at St. Phillip Catholic Church, 1573 Elaine Rd., Columbus, OH 43227; Fr. Patrick Rogers, Celebrant; interment Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
