Philip Joseph Mumm, age 75, passed away December 11, 2024 after a 3-month journey with terminal cancer. Philip was a native of Columbus, long-time resident of Upper Arlington, and immigrant to Nongki, Thailand.
Philip was born November 12, 1949 into a generous and caring family of 7. Philip attended St. Agatha and Bishop Watterson, where he formed most of his group of lifelong friends.
He served in the U.S Navy, and was always humble about the peace he enjoyed while so many of his generation struggled in active combat.
After receiving his degree from Franklin University, he became a long-time public servant for the City of Columbus, until his retirement. Blessed with the opportunity to retire at 55, Philip began to travel, ultimately finding love and a remarkable community of friends in Thailand, where he lived for 20 years.
A loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, Philip knew everyone was special, and made sure they knew it, too. However, no one was made to feel more special than his sons. Ever humble, he was horrified if someone made too much of a fuss over him.
And Lord help you if you wanted him to pick dinner.
He is survived by his partner, Pimwan Runjaroen; his sons Ryan (Cassie), Trevor (Katie); grandchildren Luciana, Rhys, Laurel, Lilly, and Charlie; brother Stephen (Denise); sisters Nancy Mumm, Julie Champagne and Lori (Kerry) Valiton; and dogs Booboo and Bubba. Preceded in death by parents J. Herbert and Dorothy Winifred Mumm; and his close companion of many years, his dog, Jovy.
A memorial service celebrating Philip will be held at 3 P.M. Friday, January 10, 2025 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Rd, where a visitation will follow service, lasting until 6 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, do what Philip would have done: Spare a kind word for a stranger, go out of your way to compliment your family, be generous with your tips, and let yourself be goofy, to make everyone around you smile.
