Preceded in death by his first wife, Berniece H. Gibbs; his parents, Raymond J. and Cecile F. Gibbs Kansas City, Mo; and brother, Raymond M. and wife, Frances Gibbs, Amarillo, TX. He is survived by his wife, Helen I. Arnold, Columbus, Oh: daughters, Denise Wells and son in law Christopher, Springfield, Oh; Melissa King and son in law, David, Stuart, Fla; and son, Krist Gibbs and daughter in law, Deann, Columbus, Oh; grandsons Walter Wells, Brendin (Jessica) King and Zachery Gibbs; and granddaughters Kelsey King and Ciara Gibbs.
He was a graduate of East High School, K.C., Mo and the U. of Mo, with postgraduate studies in School Administration. He served as teacher and principal at various Public schools; management positions at ASCOP; Illinois Inst. Of Technology; Sylvania; UNIVAC; and Director of Management Development for Otis Elevator and for AEP.
A veteran of WWII, 69th Division; recalled to duty in 1950 and served on the Chief of Staff section, Hqs., (EUSAK) Korea.
He received 1st Team football All-city and All-state honors and, at the U. of Mo, a Varsity letter as a Freshman. He played with the 29th Division team (post WWII) in Europe.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Worthington and served on several church Vestries; he completed a program for Episcopal leaders at the Mercier Theol. Seminary, Garden City, N.Y. He sang in high school, college and church choirs for 50+ years and the Worthington Community Chorus in the early '80's.
Family will receive friends Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at
SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., Worthington (Just south of I-270). A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2013 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 700 High St., Worthington, with a reception to follow. Rev. Philip College, officiating.
