Nancy K. "Ray" Carroll (Rayburn)

Nancy "Ray" Carroll, age 75 of Upper Arlington, peacefully departed this life in Upper Arlington, OH on Thursday, December 28, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimers. Born on July 26, 1948, in Portsmouth, OH, to Enoch and Katherine Rayburn, Nancy graduated from Portsmouth High School.

On April 3rd, 1980, Nancy married the love of her life, Stephen “cow” Carroll and their party didn’t stop for the next several decades. The celebration overflowed with the tone for getting “high” on life for their 38 years of marriage—a journey characterized by extensive travel and unforgettable moments filled with love and constantly shared with friends and family. They had a mutual passion for Ohio State Buckeyes football and the Indy 500. Stephen Carroll preceded Nancy in death in 2019. She was also preceded in death by her brother Louis (Marsha) Rayburn. She is survived by niece Katherine (Francis) Schiavo and nephew Trevor Rayburn (Shannon Goode).

Nancy had a career spanning several decades at Nationwide of Columbus, beginning at the young age of 19. Steve & Nancy had five beloved golden retrievers: Bo, Carrie, Josh, Augie, and Reggie who they treated like children. Their love for travel took them all over the world but Nancy always had special place in her heart for beach destinations and Michigans upper peninsula. Nancy's infectious laughter defined her presence among all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Nancy known as “Ray” will be sorely missed by her family including many nieces and nephews and in-laws. She will also be missed by a network of lifelong friends including Gary and Cynthia Rhinehart, Russ and Nancy Frankel, Garrett and Pat Schumacher, Bruce and Diane and Cochran and Mike Steinbrook.

A burial will take place at Rushtown Cemetary, Scioto County, Ohio on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 11:30 AM. Friends and family are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers and gifts, friends are encouraged to make a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
