She is survived by her children, Barbara Camfield (Russ), Karen “Mimi” Boarini (Joe), Diane Billard (Francois), Steven Yelich (Tracie), and Tracy Whitaker (Monty) and her sister-in-law Laura Rodich and brother-in-law Richard Yelich, as well as cousins Jackie Marshall, Betty Anne Swenson and Riccardo Florian and family in Tesero, Italy. Nonie also had the joy of meeting six great-grandchildren, Brendan, Abagayle, and Natali Evans, Vera and Matilda Yelich, and Rowan Panning. Mildred was a wife, mother, community leader, and firecracker. She lived her life in a way that was completely her own. A stalwart member of the Clinton, Indiana community and co-owner of Nannie’s Nook Flower Shop, she served as the President of the Clinton Public Library board,, as President of the National Council of Catholic Women, a member of the Italian Festival committee, a singer in the Italian singers, and an active member of the Sacred Heart Community. She was recognized at the Indiana State House for her very special contribution to Clinton - a brand new fire truck. Mildred was more than just a community member, she was a matriarch to all who knew her. Everyone in her orbit was touched by her spirit. In the words of her favorite, Frank Sinatra, Mildred really did it her way. She lived a life that many would be lucky to have; one full of family, laughter, and pasta sauce. Her family was oversized and everyone who met her loved her. She had scores of nieces and nephews as well as honorary nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Mildred was the center of the universe that her family rotated around. She loved hard and with a passion that was unmatched.
In the 1970s, she was lucky enough to return to the familial homeland: Italy. She reunited her mother with her sister, Caroline. They hadn’t seen each other in decades and in the years that followed the family traveled back and forth to Italy. Mildred was a proud Italian and was never shy to remind anyone about her heritage. She spent the latter half of her life in Columbus, Ohio. There, she once again surrounded herself with not only her family, but her community. Always cooking in the Hague Avenue house, she was a long time member of Saint Margaret of Cortona and currently a member of Saint Cecilia’s. She found her people in the Italian American Club. Most nights after supper, she could be found with Bud/Tappy and whatever family happened to be over playing Skip-Bo. Mildred was one of a kind and will be forever missed. Her family and friends are devastated that she’s no longer with us, but ecstatic she was reunited with her beloved husband, mother, father, brothers, sister and more friends than you can count. Visitation will be held at Advantage Funeral Home by Schoedinger Hilltop, 3030 W. Broad Street Columbus, Ohio 43204 on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm with a Rosary at 6:30 pm.
