Maxine Trainer, 92, died Wednesday, December 4, at her home in Columbus. The daughter of Homer and Carrie Payton, she proudly grew up a birthright Quaker in Leesburg, Ohio, graduated from Fairfield High School, and worked as a telephone operator. Upon moving to Columbus, she became chief switchboard operator at Commercial Motor Freight, where she met her husband, Roy. After raising her family, she returned to the workforce as an employee of Lazarus. Predeceased by her husband of 51 years, survivors include daughters Denise Russell, Lori Trainer, and Erin Bartlett; granddaughters Abigail (Adam) and Noelle (Ryan); sister Rosemary Pachter; brother-in-law Nelson Trainer; and sister-in-law Christine Payton. While Maxine never realized her lifelong dream of being a professional singer, she found joy and comfort in music throughout life. In Maxine’s memory, sing a song, whistle a tune, or enjoy a dish of ice cream. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus 43221, where a Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 1 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Union Cemetery.
