Kenneth C. Weiss, 64, of Dublin, died peacefully early Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Kobacker House with his wife, Joanna, and sister-in-law Kay Goree by his side. Kenny, known affectionately and alternately as Dr. Doom, Monkey Man, Boo, Paw-Paw and Dad, loved his music, his friends and his family passionately and in no particular order. Kenny was born Jan. 27, 1948, in Cleveland to Milton and Sylvia (Newmark) Weiss, who preceded him in death. His brother-in-law, Jeff Goree also preceded him in death. He graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and received his Ph.D., ABD, in psychology from Ohio State University. In true Kenny style, he refused to resubmit his dissertation when his typically existential original was rejected. That rebel spirit was what endeared him to all who loved him. He didn't simply march to a different drummer; he simply didn't march. Unless someone told him not to. Kenny was an early member of the James Gang and supplied lead vocals on "Country Fever" on the 1971 album "Zachariah" and continued to play guitar and sing professionally and for personal pleasure throughout his life. As a psychologist for nearly 40 years, he helped countless patients with his intelligence, wit and plain-spoken common sense. As a family man and friend, he touched countless more with these same qualities. The outpouring of love from those impacted by Kenny has sustained the family during the rigors of his final illness. Kenny battled - and soundly defeated - a host of health problems since late 2004 and those of us who love him know that his short life could have been much shorter. We are grateful for the gift of the past seven years and celebrate all the time we have shared with him. His sheer strength defied his slight build. He was a fighter - and a lover. In addition to his beloved wife, Joanna nee Goree, Kenny is survived by his sister, Charlene (Bobby) Freeman of Phoenix, a son Kristopher (fiancée Maureen Murphy) of Columbus, a daughter, Rebekah (Dimitri Hatzifotinos), his grandson George Tobias "Toby" Hatzifotinos, all of Columbus, his special niece Lisa (John) Barnett, of Frisco, Texas, his mother-in-law, Edna Goree; sister-in-law, Sharon (Karl) Robison, their children, Jeff, Amelia and Sam; sister-in-law, Kay (Trevor) Davies, and their children, Alexandra, Grace and Ella, and innumerable friends, associates and acquaintances who absolutely adored him. Friends and family may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2012 at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High St., Columbus, where a Celebration of Kenny’s Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Kobacker House, 800 McConnell Dr., Columbus, OH 43214 in Kenny's name.
