He was a beloved and devoted husband, father, and friend. He was truly humble and gave of himself without wanting or expecting recognition. Allan had a wry sense of humor and excellent command of sarcasm. He loved gadgets and technology, was ham-fisted but liked to fix things, and loved music of almost all types. Allan was an irreplaceable resource and advisor to so many people for so many things.
He was involved in several community and religious groups, including the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic, LUNGevity, the James Cancer Hospital Lung Cancer Support Group, and the OSU Patient Family Advisory Council. He was a parishioner and participated in mens’ fellowship groups at Saint Michael Catholic Church in Worthington for many years.
Allan was born in Atlanta and raised in Winston-Salem and Atlanta. He received a BA from the University of Virginia in 1970 and an MBA in International Accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1975. Allan served in the US Navy as a clerk and intelligence analyst. He had a long career in public accounting and financial management in the cellular industry, always with integrity and concern for his coworkers.
Survived by his wife of 43 years, Antoinette “Toni”; his children Brian (Kate), Christopher (Heather), Kevin (Lisa), and Joanna; his grandchild Molly; his parents Joseph and Catherine Mitchell; his sisters Margaret (Jerry Bunce) Quinn, Mary Santiago, and Nancy (Christian) Poehlmann. Preceded in death by his granddaughter Madeleine Marie.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 19 at Schoedinger Funeral Home, 6699 N. High St., Worthington from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A Dominican Holy Hour will begin at 6 p.m. The mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church, 5750 North High St, Worthington, Ohio, on Friday, Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m. Internment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery following the mass.
