John A Burkhart, age 82, went peacefully to be with his Savior on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, while surrounded by family. John was born on January 22, 1942 in Canton, Ohio to the late J. Arnold and Kathleen (Smith) Burkhart. Also preceding in death is his daughter Ann E. Hull; and son Daniel Burkhart. John attended The Ohio State University, earning his undergraduate degree in 1964. During his time there, he was an enthusiastic member of TBDBITL, the Men's Glee Club, and Beta Theta Pi, where his love for music and camaraderie shone brightly. He went on to attend medical school at Ohio State, graduating in 1968. After completing his residency, John proudly served our country as a physician in the United States Navy at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Washington, D.C. His time in the Navy was marked by dedication and excellence, embodying the values of service and care. Upon completing his service, John returned to Columbus, Ohio, where he embarked on a distinguished 33-year career as a physician. He practiced primarily at Riverside Methodist Hospital, earning the respect and affection of colleagues and patients alike. John also served as Medical Director at several other hospitals and nursing facilities including the acute rehabilitation facility at Columbus Community Hospital. John’s career was characterized by his unwavering commitment to his patients and his leadership in the medical community. But with all his interests and talents, his faith in Christ and love for his family were always paramount. Particularly memorable are family vacations by the ocean (with the occasional Manhattan) and his years of involvement with the faith community of Upper Arlington Lutheran Church. John will be sorely missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Maureen Ann (Martin) Burkhart; his sister Patricia (Harvey) Ohman; sons Matt (Karen) Burkhart and Tim Burkhart; daughter Laura (Jamie) Natalie; son-in-law Jason (Lisa) Hull; grandchildren Elisabeth (Luke) Beerse, Amy Hull, Joseph Hull, Tyler Burkhart, Colson Burkhart, Jimmer Natalie, Will Natalie, Luke Natalie, Audrey Burkhart, and Theodore Burkhart; great-granddaughter Ivy Ann Beerse; and nephews John (Sue) Ohman and Joseph (Kim) Ohman. Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, 3500 Mill Run Drive, Hilliard, Ohio 43026.
