Joey was born on October 7, 1941 to the late Rudolph and Emelyn (Brown) Shearer in Williamsport, PA. Joey graduated from Williamsport High School and went on to earn her RN from the Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing. Upon marrying her late, former husband, Robert Ashbrook, Joey moved to Columbus, Ohio where she was an operating room nurse with University Hospital, and retired from Mount Carmel East Hospital.
Joey passionately loved her grandchildren and supported them in all their endeavors. She attended their sporting and music events and she was always game to participate in their shenanigans of Nerf gun battles, water balloons and countless other activities.
Joey was a member of the Knitting and Crocheting Ministry at St. Matthew’s Church where she crocheted hats and scarves for those in need. This Ministry was an uplifting source of joy and friendship for her.
Joey will be deeply missed by her three daughters, Elaine Robertson (Rick), Diane McKnight (Scott), Jennifer Matchett (Sam), seven granddaughters, three grandsons, one great-granddaughter, two great-grandsons, her brother, Robert (Eileen) Shearer, her niece, nephew, and three great nephews, best friend, Joanne Kitchen, and her very spoiled cat, Callie.
Joey’s family would like to express their sincerest thanks to the staff at the Inn at Summit Trail. We are especially grateful to the aides who dedicated their time to her care. Boomer and the Giggling Nurses were her particular favorites.
Joey’s legacy will live on in the hearts and lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she has left this earthly realm, her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those loved her. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and light she shared with the world.
