Howard R Moccabee, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at home. He was born on February 12, 1941 in Columbus, Ohio. Predeceased by his wife of 38 years Sarah (Sally) Kay Moccabee, Mother, Alice (Morgan) Johnson, Father, Howard R. Moccabee Sr. (KIA) in Germany during WWII, Stepfather Harold R. Johnson and sister Cheryl L. (Johnson) Roosenberg. Survived by daughter Wendy D. Moccabee of Columbus, Ohio, surrogate daughter Jaclyn S. Peresetsky, surrogate grandsons Misha and Maksym Peresetsky, Brother and Sister-in-law Steven and Margaret Johnson of Orient, Ohio and Brother-in-law Bill Roosenberg of Charlotte, NC. Many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins. Special nieces Kristen (Michael) Delay and Sharla (Danny) Meeks, who had the honor of taking care of Howard for the last several months. Howard was a graduate of Columbus Central High School class of 1958. A long-time member and board member of the Central High School Alumni Association. His many roles on the Central board were President, Sales Director, Vice President, Trustee and Executive Board Advisor. Charter member of the Central on the Scioto Committee and received the Distinguished Pirate Award for his work as president of the Alumni Association during the transition of COSI to the current site. Graduated Cum Laude from Franklin University in 1974 with an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958-1961 and made three Mediterranean Cruises aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Intrepid as a Radioman 2nd class. Received a Top-Secret Cryptography clearance. Encoded and Decoded classified information. He was a licensed insurance agent and owner of Moccabee Insurance Agency as an independent contractor with Nationwide Insurance. Coached little league baseball in Hilliard and North Columbus. He was a past member of the Dublin Singers, Avery Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Aladdin Shrine, American Legion, Moose Lodge, VFW Associate member and Amateur Radio Emergency Service, Ham call sign N8FXA. As a member of the Dublin Singers, Howard had the honor of singing “The Magnificiat” under the direction of John Rutter in Carnegie Hall in New York City. Family and friends will gather on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 4-7 pm at Advantage Funeral and Cremation by Schoedinger Hilltop, 3030 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43204. A private inurnment will take place at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
