Gina Maria Murray Harris was born on March 25, 1966 in Braddock General Hospital, Braddock, PA. She died March 23, 2020 of suspected COVID-19 related complications. She died two days before her 54th birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Belle and Moses Murray of Swissvale, PA., and John Harris, her first husband.
Gina was raised in Swissvale, PA. She was active in sports, playing girls softball, basketball, and pee wee football. Gina and her childhood friend Leslie were the first girls to play on the pee wee football team. Gina was a proud member of Swissvale High School class of 1984 and loved staying in touch with classmates. A diehard sports fan, Gina loved the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers but also enjoyed watching professional tennis, basketball, and college football. Although she was loyal to the Pitt Panthers, she grew to love the Ohio State Buckeyes after many years of living in Columbus, Ohio.
Gina is survived by her loving fiancé and his family, Edward “Eddie” Phipps, LaShaun Phipps, Deairzae Williams, Edward Phipps Jr., her five siblings, Ronnie Murray, Rosalind Murray (John Port), Veronica Murray, Moses Murray, Jr., Dayna McCrary (Michael), and her former sister-in law, Sharon McDonald Murray. She loved everyone, but she was especially loved and felt proud of all her nieces and nephews: Khavah, YeShaya, Morgan, Cecelia, Y'Hoshua, Jarrell, Benjamin (Madisyn), Nathan, Joshua, Grant and Y'Hoshua, Jr.
A proud veteran of the Gulf War, Gina was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, and Fort Hood, Texas. After earning an honorable discharge from the Army, Gina lived for several years in Las Vegas, NV. For the past 10 years, Gina resided on Columbus' East Side where she worked for Panacea Products.
Gina Maria Murray Harris' life mattered. It is a tragedy that her life was shortened by this terrible disease just as she was set to begin a new chapter in her life. We will forever mourn her passing. Our lives will never be the same.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2020 from 4-7PM at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna. Those attending are required to wear masks inside the funeral home. A committal with military honors will be held Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 10:30AM at Dayton National Cemetery.
