Donald Conrad Fischer, Sr., born April 8, 1918 in Columbus, Ohio, passed away January 21, 2017. Went to Southwood Elementary, Barrett Jr High School (when it was South High School) and Columbus South High School. Graduated from South High School, January, 1936 where he was co-President of his Class and still remained active in alumni association activities. Attended Franklin University. Donald was a lifelong stamp collector who developed a beautifully cared-for and presented collection and was a collector of 78 rpm records-some of the best of Tommy Dorsey, Stan Kenton, Frankie Carle, Nat King Cole from the late 30s and early 40s. He worked as an accountant for US Steel, Central Ohio Distributing Co, and Columbus Liquidating Company. Donald was a veteran of WWII, serving from 1945-1946 in the United States Army at Fort Meade, MD where he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. Member of the Columbus Maennerchor for over 50 years where he served as Treasurer for many years. Member of Southgate Lodge, now York Temple, Free and Accepted Masons and Aladdin Shrine for over 50 years. Donald served as an Advisor, Bexley Chapter, Order of DeMolay and Associate Guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel 5. Lifelong member, St. John's United Church of Christ (formerly St John's Evangelical and Reformed) where he served on the Church Council, advised and coached church athletic teams, and met his beloved wife of 67 years, Betty Jane Fischer nee Reusch. Preceded in death by his father, Arthur H. Fischer and mother, Estella; his wife Betty Jane Reusch; his daughter-in-law Annerose Fischer, nee Strunck. He is survived by his sons, Donald Jr and Michael (Sarah), his daughter Joy Susanne, his grandchildren, Anthony Fischer (Juli Palladino) in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Max Fischer(Stacy) and Lena Lynch(Ryan) and his great-grand-children Hayden, Sydney, Lewie, Miri, and Tess. Dad and Mom were always engaged where their children were. There were countless rides given to children and friends to school events, ball games, recitals, dances, movies and so on. From going to the Saturday matinees at the Champion and Markham theaters to all the events around town, Dad would do the driving. He and mom were active in Parent Teacher Associations at Heyl, Barrett and South High Schools as members, officers, chaperones at what have you. With the Masons, Eastern Star, Job's Daughters and DeMolays they could always be counted upon to give time. There are many young people whose lives they affected. Dad was blessed with intelligence and memory and physical condition up to his passing. He knew and remembered everyone and everything. He was a remaining Dad to his children's friends, able to tell them stories of their parents and relatives that none of them knew. At the Hey-Hey for a family celebration or attending the annual South High Reunion, he was the keeper of the history. He knew so much of what went on in German Village. He knew so much of what went on in what is now Marion Village. He is missed. Thanks Dad and Mom for everything. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, January 26, 2017 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where family will receive friends from 4-8 P.M. Wednesday and a Masonic Service will begin at 4 pm Wednesday.
