Diane Whalen passed away at the age of 67 with her loving family by her in Columbus Ohio at the Wexner Medical Center at Ohio State University in on April 1, 2022. She was preceded in death by her Mother, Dorothy Whalen; Father, Arthur Whalen; and sister-in-law, Joyce Whalen. She is survived by her brothers and sister Art Whalen of North Carolina, Tim Whalen of Columbus, Ohio, Dan Whalen of Florida, and Kathleen Grimes of Maryland. Diane was also survived by sister and brother in laws Amy Whalen, Lynn Whalen, Todd Grimes, numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, including Tracy (Whalen) husband Allen Payne, grandnephew Oliver Payne, and grandniece Lily Payne. Diane gave much of her life to making other lives better especially in her career at Ohio State working with children dealing with the effects of cancer, orchestrating the start of the ‘Balloon Brigade.’ Diane also helped mold the lives of many children, teaching Sunday School and leading the Children’s Choir at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and as a troop leader through with years of leadership for Girl Scouts. An enthusiastic Buckeyes and Browns fan and football season will never be the same without her. Funeral Service will be held at 9 AM on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2001 Northwest Boulevard, Columbus, Ohio 43212, where family will receive friends from 8 AM until time of service at 9 AM. Interment at Union Cemetery.
