Reverend David H. Murdoch Sr took his glorious flight to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 16, 2022, surrounded by his family after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Dave was born on August 18, 1946, to the late Henry and Emma (Fielding) Murdoch in Gault, Ontario Canada. On July 4, 1969, Dave married the love of his life, Darlene Fitch of New Castle, PA. They were blessed with three children, Dawna (Murdoch) Standley, David H. Murdoch Jr. and Deborah (Murdoch) Carter. Dave and Darlene raised their kids to love the Lord and to use their gifts to bring glory to God.
Dave and Darlene spread the Word of God coast to coast through their Music Ministry. They have recorded 9 projects with highlighted songs that are played on Christian radio. Dave began his preaching ministry in Ypsilanti MI and spent the next 25 years ministering in churches in Tallahassee FL, Jacksonville FL and Bellefontaine OH. He was a gifted musician and his directing ability is unmatched. He was a graduate of Cedarville University and Winebrenner Theological Seminary. He also completed the training to become a Board Certified Chaplain through Association of Professional Chaplains.
God then called Dave into chaplaincy ministry. He served at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital for many years. He was best known for his compassionate care, not only for patients and families, but for every employee and First Responder. Because of this, he was asked to serve as Chaplain for Westerville Police/ Fire and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Dave proudly gave of himself and was incredibly honored to be a part of a team of men and women whom he respected so deeply.
Being dad and grandpa was a highlight of Dave’s life. He was a staple in the front row of every event. He was the loudest voice for every National Anthem so the kids would know he was there. He was the family’s greatest prayer warrior and encourager in their faith, continually pointing them to Christ. His family and friends also appreciated his wonderful sense of humor. His quick wit and laughter made loving him effortless.
With this temporary separation from those he loved, Dave is survived by his loving wife and ministry partner of 53 years, Darlene (Fitch) Murdoch, daughters, Dawna (John) Standley, Deborah (Ben) Carter, son David H. (Janel) Murdoch Jr., Grandchildren, Andrew (Lauren), Adam, Seth, Emma, Kemp, Hannah, Helen, Landon, Henry and Grayson. Brothers J. Murray (Ruth) Murdoch, John (Hope) Murdoch, loving nieces, nephews and countless lives he touched.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm – 8:00pm on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at the Grace Fellowship Church of Westerville, 3475 Paris Blvd. Westerville, OH 43081. Dave’s life will be honored and celebrated with a Funeral Service at 11:00am on Friday, September 23, 2022, no visitation prior.
