Cheryl Ann Walker was born on August 13, 1950. Born Cheryl Ann Hairston and later adopted as Cheryl Ann Barr. She was the youngest of two children paternally, and the oldest of two children born to Albert and Gladys Barr. She was raised a member of Mount Vernon Avenue AME Church. After graduating from West High School, she later went on the broadcasting school. She used her oratory skills to go on to build a career as an operator at Ohio Bell, where she worked for over 20 years. Although she worked hard, her true love was God and family. As a young adult she chose to make her church home Bible Way Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc. in Columbus, Ohio, where she became a devout member and chose to raise her children. In 1994, fate prevailed and she reconnect with her elementary school sweetheart, James “Jimmy” Walker. The love had never faded over the years and they went on to fulfill destiny and get married. Cheryl enjoyed traveling and had always wanted to go to the ocean, so in June of 2019, Jimmy took her and her grandchildren to the ocean at Tybee Island in Georgia and achieved her dream. Cheryl Walker departed this life on December 23, 2022. She loved family and friends and was loved, in return, by all. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Gladys Barr, and William P. Hairston; her daughter, Shannon Carroll; her stepson, Justin Walker; her uncle, Rickey Hairston; her nephew, Brandon Barr; and her grandson, Marcus Knight. Cheryl Walker had a truly warm, generous heart and will be missed by so many. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Jimmy Walker; her brothers, Ronald Barr and Preston Hairston; her brother-in-law, Thurman Walker; her adoring children, Dallas (Tonya) Carroll, Kurtis Carroll, Kimberly (Elvis) Henderson of Atlanta, GA, and Cicely Carroll of Atlanta, GA, Jimmy (Vicki) Walker III, and Jeremy (Tina) Walker; her fifteen doting grandchildren: Janay Henderson, Candace (Keith) Reddick, Elvis “Trey” Henderson III, Lea Johnson, Bruce Henderson, Taj (Jameka) Jackson, Jhelan (Coneisha) Dawson, Tyler Jackson, Shiloh Dawson, Tamikka Carroll, Adam Henderson, Julius Towner, Jeremy Jr., Justin Jr., and Gabriel Henderson; her 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Bible- Way Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 453 S. Wheatland Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43204 where visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 am. Elder Timothy L. Latta, Pastor officiating. Interment Green Lawn Cemetery.
