Bradley K. Sinnott

Bradley K. Sinnott passed away Saturday May 15, 2021, at Riverside Hospital, with his wife Sandra and close friend Dr. Brad Lewis at his side, after a short illness. Born May 4, 1961, in Nelsonville, Ohio, Brad enjoyed a long and loving relationship with his grandparents Harry and Madeline Armstrong. Grandfather Harry was a Hocking County Commissioner and state senator whose district at one time included Reynoldsburg. Harry was the example of and inspiration for Brad's passion for politics and public service. Brad's Hocking County Appalachia roots remained with him all the while he became an "urban pioneer" as one of the first residents in Columbus' downtown residential renaissance. Never losing his love of nature, he was an excellent marksman and fisherman, and he and Sandra enjoyed the pleasures of the great outdoors in Ohio and during their extensive travel around the country. He treasured time spent at his historic Perry County cabin, which he aptly dubbed "Perry-dise."

Brad earned his undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University with honors. He graduated summa cum laude from Capital University Law School, where he was Order of the Curia and the executive articles editor of the university Law Review. He graduated first in his class. He became a partner at Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, Columbus' oldest and largest law firm, and was a lecturer at numerous trade associations and commercial seminars including the National Federation of State Medical Boards, the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers and the Ohio Self-Insurers Association. He argued successfully before the Ohio Supreme Court. In 2020, Brad was named by peers as the Woodward/White Lawyer of the year for Central Ohio Workers' Compensation Defense.

Brad was proud of his effective service as a member of the Ohio State Medical Board, having been appointed by Governor George Voinovich. A member of the Franklin County Board of Elections, Brad served the voters and citizens of Franklin County with distinction, as he approached his responsibilities at the board with the professionalism which he exhibited in all facets of his life. The board benefited from his deep knowledge of election law and the application of practical, common sense solutions to those challenges which arise at every election. He enjoyed working with his Democratic and Republican colleagues, and with the many professionals who make up the Franklin County Board of Elections family.

Brad truly did embody the term "compassionate conservative." Indeed, in the days since his passing, the most common descriptors used in innumerable messages of remembrance include "kind-hearted, considerate, thoughtful, cheerful, helpful, kind, always smiling," and many more. Brad was elected to the Franklin County Republican Central Committee and volunteered his talents on numerous campaigns. He developed an expertise in campaign finance, and was a much sought-after campaign treasurer at the local and state level, having recently served as treasurer for Governor John Kasich's campaigns. He served as Chairman of the Franklin County Republican Central Committee for 16 years, guiding that body's often contentious gatherings with skill and acumen. His political advice was highly prized by candidates and strategists at the local, state, and national levels.

Many people claim it, but Brad lived it, as probably the number one Buckeye fan. A season ticket holder for decades, Brad attended nearly 300 OSU football games, both home and away, in unbroken succession, until the pandemic. He and Sandra attended the 2020 National Championship final in January. Brad was a longtime supporter of OSU's cheerleading program but love of sports didn't stop there. He was also an avid fan and season ticket holder of the Columbus Clippers and the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Brad is survived by his wife Sandra Sinnott, mother Marvalea Cummins, sisters Rhonda Legg and Lisa McCarthy, brothers-in-law, nephews and nieces, and hundreds and hundreds of friends and colleagues who will forever miss his charm, style, and smiling face.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at The Ohio Statehouse Atrium. Doors open at 11:30 AM, service begins at 12:30 PM. Reception to follow. The statehouse garage will be available for paid parking.
