Born in Columbus Feb. 11, 1926, she was the daughter of Howard and Frances Downs Newsom. She married Harold Scott Nov. 29, 1947, at the home place in Azalia, and he survives.
Jean worked at Irwin Union Bank & Trust for many years as a bookkeeper. Later she worked for L.S. Ayres and for Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indianapolis. She was a member of Sandcreek-Azalia Friends Meeting, was a homemaker, enjoyed puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren and friends. She attended Earlham College.
Jean is survived by her husband, Harold Scott of Columbus; daughters, Carol (Mike) Thomas of Columbus, Gayle (Rob) Mercer of Indianapolis, and Marcia Nance of Columbus; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joseph Newsom, in 1975.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sandcreek-Azalia Friends Meeting Place, with Fred Darling officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street and one hour prior to the service Monday at church. Burial will be at Sandcreek Friends Cemetery at Azalia.
