SP6 (Ret) Fred J. Farless, age 80, resident of Columbus, died on August 27, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, 10 a.m. Interment will follow with full military honors at Main Post Cemetery, Fort Benning, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. Mr. Farless, son of the late Willie Farless and Margaret Lorene Stacy Farless, was born May 15, 1930 in Bradyville, TN. He was retired from the U.S. Army, where he served honorably for 20 years. Mr. Farless served in the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal Bronze Clasp w/4 Loops; Army of Occupation Medal (Japan); National Defense Service Medal w/OLC; Korean Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal; Meritorious Unit Citation; and Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Badge during his tenure in the military. After retirement from the military, he worked in Civil Service for 25 years until he retired. He is survived by his wife, Frances L. Chaffin Farless of Columbus; two sons, Mike (Jeannine) Farless of Phenix City, AL, and Jeff Farless of Phenix City, AL; daughter, Pam (Aaron) Moody of Phenix City, AL; six grandchildren, Bradley (Margee) Farless, Scott Farless, Cameron (Andrew) Kesterson, J.R. (Ashley) Farless, Shaun Deal and Jeremy Moody; three great-grandchildren, Annastasia Kesterson, Gabriel Kesterson, and Benjamin Farless; two brothers, Bobby (Opal) Farless of Cuthbert, GA and Wayne (Theresa) Farless of Tullahoma, TN; four sisters, Wilma Farless of Manchester, TN, Norma Harrison of Green Castle, IN, Ruth Farless of TN, and Joyce (Marion) Bankston of Huntsville, AL; other relatives and friends.
