Ricky Cates Gordon, 68, of Midland, Georgia, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021. A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 1:00p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a chapel service at 3:00 p.m. in the Edgewood Hall Chapel at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Pastor Rudy Allen officiating. A private burial will follow at Parkhill Cemetery.
Ricky was born on October 28, 1953 in Greenville, Alabama to the late Roy Cates and Lena Ruth Gordon. He attended Kendrick High School in Columbus, and received his Bachelor’s degree in Business from Columbus State University and acquired his Master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University. He married his wife, Petra, of twenty-six years on January 13, 1995. He was the Parks and Recreation Director for Columbus for twelve years. Rick had a career in Real Estate for 20+ years and loved every minute of it. Rick was also a member of Turning Point Christian Ministries. He had a passion for sports. Rick played basketball for Columbus State for 4 years and had a love for tennis. He coached tennis at Columbus High School for seven years. He was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle. Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ruth Gordon; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Henry and Donna Klepper.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Petra; children, Cody A. Gordon, Ryan C. Gordon, K. Nicole Gordon and Marella G. Gordon; two brothers, Ronald E. Gordon (Kathy), and Robin R. Gordon; his mother-in-law, Berta Zavala (Cliff); nephews, Brandon J. Klepper (Briana), Wesley R. Gordon (Vonda), Michael S. Gordon (Laurie), Steven C. Gordon (Crystal), and Zachary T. Gordon; nieces, Melissa E. Chapman (Aaron), Cristina M. Helmig (Jason), and Robyn Keen (Allen); and a host of great nieces, nephews and cousins.
