Raymond Pratt Eastburn, 93, of Macon died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Carlyle Place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Striffler-Hamby Chapel, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. The family will greet friends after the service. A private burial will be at Parkhill Cemetery. Mr. Eastburn was born April 16, 1917 near Unionville, PA, son of the late James Reid and Ethel Pratt Eastburn. He graduated from Unionville High School in 1935 and attended Beacom Business College in Wilmington, DL. He worked at Equitable Bank & Trust in Wilmington until 1941 when he was drafted into the US Army. While stationed at Ft. Benning, GA, Mr. Eastburn met and married Tennie Sybil Copland of Columbus, GA in 1942. Following Officer Candidate School in Ft. Sill, OK and flight school in Wichita Falls, TX, Mr. Eastburn was deployed to the Philippines and served in Japan through the close of WWII. He returned home to his wife and son as well as his job at Equitable. In 1947, Eastburn and his family moved to Columbus, GA. where he worked at M & M Bank. In 1948, Eastburn joined David Rothschild Co. where he later became Controller. In 1952, Eastburn joined the Army Reserve, establishing several units in the Columbus area, maintaining his flight credentials and retiring in 1969 as Major. He was active in Kiwanis Club, the Columbus High School Band Boosters and is a member of the order of Masons. The Eastburns are longtime members of St. Luke United Methodist Church of Columbus. In 1967, Eastburn joined AFLAC and was appointed State Manager for Indiana; he and Sybil lived in Indiana until his retirement in 1981. During his 13 year tenure with AFLAC, Eastburn won numerous sales awards and Indiana became one of the top 5 sales organizations in AFLAC. Following his retirement, the Eastburns maintained homes in Columbus, GA and Clearwater, FL and enjoyed extensive travel. Since 2003, the Eastburns have resided at Carlyle Place Retirement Community in Macon, GA. Other than his wife, survivors include: one son, Joseph Raymond Eastburn and his wife, Gail, of Carmel, IN; one daughter, Janet Eastburn Amos of Atlanta, GA and Highlands, NC; five grandchildren, Ashley A. Copelan and her husband, Dean, of Macon, William L. Amos, III and his wife, Jenifer, of Columbus, Reid P. Eastburn of Atlanta, Kevin R. Eastburn and his wife, Katherine, of Covington, GA, and Dr. Karen K. Eastburn of Atlanta; four great-grandchildren, William L.
