R. F. "Bob" Roberson, 90, passed away June 26, 2019 at his home in Columbus, GA. He was born September 28, 1928 in Birmingham, AL, to his late parents, Franklin Taylor Roberson and Johnnie Eloise Doyle.
Bob grew up in Birmingham, AL before moving to Montgomery, AL for his high school years. He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, AL, Howard College (now Samford University) and after being ordained as a Baptist minister; he attended the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and pastored four churches: Goodwater, AL (1956), Pepperell, AL (1956-1961), Benning Hills, GA (1961-1963), and Fairfax, AL (1963-1971).
Bob worked for the Community Action Agency of Columbus, and in the past, he had a part time job at Sears in the credit department. Bob was Vice President at United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley for over 20 years, retiring in 2008. During his time of United Way, Bob wrote a regular community interest column in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer. In his 80s. He worked part-time at the DCI dialysis clinic. He was always a huge fan of Auburn football.
Other than his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his daughter, Wendy Roberson Smith; step-son, Greg Fillers; and sister, Janet Roberson Long.
He is survived by: his loving wife, Shirley Roberson; sons, Mike (Linda) Roberson of Richmond, KY and Jeff (Lorrie) Roberson of Suffolk, VA; Half brothers and sisters, Carolyn Roberson, Steve (Nancy) Roberson, Barbara (Barney) Roberson Siegel, Ken Roberson, and six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and 18 nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be Friday, June 28, 2019 in the Wildwood Room of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA from 10:00 am until 11:30 am, followed by a Graveside Celebration of Bob’s Life at Parkhill Cemetery in The Chapel of The Pines Mausoleum at 12:00 pm with Pastor Hank Reeves officiating.
