Monroe Joseph Breese, 94, of Columbus, Georgia, known to most as Zeke, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.
Monroe was born on March 22, 1927, in Albia, Iowa to the late Archie Breese and Meryl Stella Baldridge Breese. Mr. Breese enlisted into the military at the age of 17 and spent two years in the United States Navy. Soon after the Navy, Monroe enlisting into the Army, and met the love of his life, LaDonna. He served 18 years before retiring as a Sargent Major. Throughout his military career he received many awards and medals, including a Bronze Star with Valor, the Soldier's Medal and was a Master Paratrooper with 300 jumps to his credit. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, reading books and listening to audio books. Monroe was a jokester, humor was his second language.
Monroe is preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Meryl; his daughter, Kathie Kae Breese; siblings, Alberta, Phyllis, Shirley, Robert, and Lavonia; grandson, Christopher Paul Breese.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 73 years, LaDonna Breese; two children, James D. Breese and Vicky L. Breese-Rogers; grandchildren, D. Dustin Breese, Amy R. Herbster, Robyn L. Watson, and Tyler P. MacElroy; 6 great grandsons.
