The daughter of Ulysse Steib Jr. and Enola Bourgeois, Mary Enola was born on May 8, 1940 in New Orleans. She grew up in Paulina, Louisiana and graduated from Lutcher High School, Hotel Dieu School of Nursing, and Northwestern State College.
During her Army career, she served in Vietnam, Germany, and various domestic posts. She retired in Columbus after her last assignment at Fort Benning.
For many years Mary Enola was an active member of St. Anne’s Parish where she volunteered at its Community Outreach Center. She was honored with a Mother Theresa Rosary for her faithful service.
Mary Enola was an avid reader who enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and who crocheted thoughtful gifts for her friends and relatives. She will be remembered for her playful humor and generous heart.
Mary Enola is survived by her sister Claire S. Hymel, nephew Christopher Hymel and wife Hope Hasbrouk, niece Andrée Bober and husband Jonathan Bober, and grandniece Elianne Bober. She was predeceased by her parents, brother-in-law Jewel Hymel, and nephew Stephen Hymel.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, October 7th in the Chapel of St. Anne Catholic Church, 2000 Kay Cir. Columbus, GA 31907.
