Lowell Wayne Nicholson November 29, 2010 COLUMBUS, GA— MSGT U.S. Army (Ret.) Lowell "Nick" Wayne Nicholson, age 69, passed away on November 29, 2010. Funeral services will be held at Pebble Community Center in Haleyville, AL on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 2:00 PM CST. Burial will follow in Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus on Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family asks memorial contributions be made to the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes, P.O. Box 1000, Stockbridge, GA 30281. Mr. Nicholson was born in Haleyville, AL in 1941 to the late Luther Nicholson and Grace Vandiver Nicholson. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on February 28, 1964, while serving two tours in the Vietnam War. Upon returning from overseas he worked through the ranks until he was promoted to Master Sergeant and became Brigade Communications Chief for the 197th Infantry Brigade. Mr. Nicholson was a member of American Legion Post #267, the Charles M. Greavu AMVETS Post 9, the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Chapter, the Georgia Sheriffs' Association and the Dimon Wood Neighborhood Association. He later graduated from Columbus Technical College with a certificate for Small Appliance Repair. Mr. Nicholson enjoyed fishing and hunting and worked with Park Properties as the Property Manager as well as West Building Materials as the Operations Manager. He was preceded in death by his twin sons, Billy and Bobby Nicholson, a brother, Vernon Nicholson and two sisters, Idell Rodgers and Juanita Tidwell. He is survived by his wife, Hong Thi Nicholson of Columbus, two sons, Gary Nicholson and Timothy Wayne Nicholson, both of Columbus; a daughter, Rose Marie Nicholson (Thomas) of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Christopher Wayne Nicholson, Benjamin Wayne Nicholson, Thomas Wayne Nicholson, Jonathan Wayne Nicholson, Phung Ariana Nicholson, Thomas Henry Watkins, II and Victoria Lee Ross; six brothers, Alton Nicholson, Earl Nicholson, Clinton Nicholson, Charles Nicholson, Jerry Nicholson and Terry Nicholson; four sisters, Inez Alexander, Dorothy Sewell, Margaret Crane and Sue Doore, all of Haleyville, AL.
