Lenore Hoffman Ash, age 92, resident of Columbus, GA, died on January 19, 2022, at her daughter and son-in-law’s home under Hospice care. She left her earthly home for her eternal home surrounded by love. A memorial service is scheduled at Wynnton United Methodist Church, 2412 Wynnton Road in Columbus on January 28, 2022, at 11 a.m. with Rev. J Grantham officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m.
Lenore was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on November 29, 1929. She was the daughter of J Vern and Veda Scott Hoffman. Lenore was raised in Cheyenne and then attended Denver University. There, she met a young man in seminary at Iliff, also in Denver. They met on a scavenger hunt and began a life of adventures together as they moved to Mississippi and then all around the state serving numerous United Methodist churches in the Mississippi conference.
Lenore was Miss Wyoming in 1950, though she never wanted us to talk about it! Her talent for the pageant was sewing, and she was a gifted seamstress. As a seamstress, she delighted in making clothes for her daughter and granddaughters, and she was always there to help with any church play costumes or needs for cancer patients. She taught the skill of sewing to many groups of girls through her years in Jackson, MS. She directed weddings and helped many brides with last minute adjustments. She was never without needle, thread, and small scissors in her purse.
Lenore lived in many places around Mississippi while supporting her husband, Rev. John L. Ash III, in his ministry. They finally settled in Pascagoula, MS, where they were close to their son and grandsons and got to regularly enjoy visits. Then, she and John moved to Columbus, GA, after Hurricane Katrina changed their plans of living on the coast for the remainder of their lives. It became a blessing for them to then be near their daughter, Linell Pringle, and her family.
Lenore loved family and always put them first. As much as she loved her children, life’s greatest pleasure came with grandchildren, and then great grandchildren. She adored the time spent with her family and watching the kids grow and learn. She always had a puzzle, book or good newspaper cartoon handy when her grandchildren and then her great grandchildren visited.
She was a humble and giving lady her entire life. She leaves a legacy of love. She loved her Lord and her family. She raised them with values we will all strive to live by to honor her.
Lenore was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Rev. John L. Ash III; their son, Lowry; her parents, Vern and Veda Hoffman; and her brother, Shad Hoffman. She is survived by her son, Dr. Scott Ash of Lucedale, MS, and her daughter, Linell Pringle (David) of Midland, GA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Erin Miley (Colt), Columbus, GA; Leah Barnes (Ryan), Smyrna, GA; Colin Ash, New Orleans, LA; and Evan Ash, Oxford, MS. Her most precious gifts
were her great grandchildren, Noah Miley, John Miley, and Lawson Barnes, who lit up her life as only great grandchildren can. They will miss their GeeGee so much.
Lenore was a member of Wynnton United Methodist Church. She attended the Cofer-Friendship, then Goodwill Sunday school classes. The celebration of her life will be held at Wynnton. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Wynnton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 5469, Columbus, GA 31906, or to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Rd., Columbus, GA 31909.
