Services to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019, with family visiting with friends from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM in the Wildwood Room at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia. A procession will follow into Parkhill Cemetery with a graveside service at 3:00 PM with Pastor Steve Garnett officiating.
Mr. Rayburn was born on March 17, 1933 in Columbus, Georgia, son of the late Jewell and Robert Rayburn. Mr. Rayburn retired after 31 years from Civil Service at Fort Benning, Georgia’s Maintenance Fleet Division. Mr. Rayburn was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a devoted Deacon at Fairfax First Baptist Church in Valley, Alabama. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Hethcox Rayburn and brother Robert Rayburn.
He is survived by his children Kathryn Rayburn Trzaski (Frank) of Columbus, Georgia, John Michael Rayburn (Joyce) of Columbus, Georgia, and Sherrie Rayburn Fletcher (Rodney) of Waddell, Arizona; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; sister, Janice McGhee of Hermitage, Tennessee; brother, Daniel Rayburn (Cynthia) of Ellerslie, Georgia; brother-in-law, Ronald Hethcox (Carol) of Smiths, Alabama and numerous other relatives.
