John B. Coleman, 79, of Ellerslie, Georgia passed away June 28, 2024 surrounded by his family and loved ones.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held be at Midland United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 5, 2024, followed by the memorial service at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Stephen Brinkman officiating. Visitors may dress casually in their favorite school colors to honor John’s passion for collegiate football.
He was a 1963 graduate of Columbus High School and had a degree in accounting from Perry Business College. He served in the United Sates Army Reserves for six years. He spent several years as a computer programmer and then later became the store manager of Giant Value grocery store in Phenix City owned by his father. John being very tender hearted for those in need or on limited income would often give them a credit line. After several years the store was lost to a fire, and he continued to help others and he started a new chapter of his life as an exterminator. John was endearingly known as “the bug man”. Being the entrepreneur, he also sold pictures along his route for the well-known artist Joe Belt. John loved people, he never spoke unkind and he was a light to many.
He retired from GW Exterminating Company where he worked for 30 years. Between his work and innumerable Midland United Methodist Church activities, "Mr. John" was adored by many people in the Chattahoochee Valley. Because he was a devoted Christian, it is rewarding to know that John's last service was with the Men's Club at Midland United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Bascom Coleman, Sr. and Aldona S. Coleman, his sister Judy Coulter and brother-in-law Mike Coulter and his son Brad Benton.
He is survived by his wife, Winnie Coleman, two brothers and their wives, Jim and Sharon Coleman, William B. Jr. and Becky Coleman, daughter and her husband Lisa and Bob Bunting, daughter and her husband Kristen and Keith Homer, daughter Christina Summers, daughter and her husband Tonya and Paul Seguin, son and his wife Bobby and Bonnie Rogers, son-in-law John Thornton, and many cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren. nieces and nephews
