Hollis Myers Baker, age 96, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021. A visitation of family and friends for Hollis will be held Friday, November 12, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. Following the visitation of family and friends, a graveside celebration of Hollis' life will be held at 3:00 PM at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia.
Hollis was born September 4, 1925, in Sommerville, Alabama; the son of James Dallas Baker and Novie Chunn Baker. After finishing high school, Hollis joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon completion of his service, Hollis returned home and began his career with the Columbus Police Department. During his time with the police department, Hollis rode in the motor squad but spent most of his time as a detective. Hollis was a proud American who loved his country. Hollis was a caring and humble man. He was known to be honorable, honest, and responsible. He loved the Lord, his family, and he was a member of Cascade Hills Church. Hollis was a devoted husband to his wife Mary, father to Carole and Jeff, stepfather to Rebecca and Pop to Logan and Dylan. He cherished these relationships, especially being a pop.
Hollis is preceded in death by his son, Jeff Baker, and his siblings, Grace Fowler, Frances McCutcheon, James Baker, Robert V. Baker, Betty Highbaugh, Joe D. Baker, Gayle Couch.
Survivors include: his wife of 27 years Mary; daughter Carole (Jerry) Givens; stepdaughter Rebecca Pate; grandchildren, Logan (Anna) Pate, Dylan Pate; his sister, Annette Norton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
