George Cecil Woodruff, Jr., affectionately known as "Bumpsey," died on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled at First Presbyterian Church, 1100 First Avenue, Columbus on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 3 p.m., with Reverend Charles R. Hasty, Jr. officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus. Private interment will precede the funeral service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 13, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. and will also receive friends after the funeral service at the church. Mr. Woodruff, son of the late George Cecil Woodruff, Sr and Kathleen Koonce Woodruff, was born May 24, 1928 in Columbus. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Woodruff was heavily involved in many civic, community, and industrial development projects throughout his career. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Woodruff was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Betty Jinks Woodruff. He is survived by two daughters, Laurie Woodruff Waldrop and her husband Dr. John Waldrop of Harris County, GA, and Julie Bond Woodruff of Midland, GA; one son, George Cecil Woodruff III and his wife Laura Holladay Woodruff of Midland, GA; seven grandchildren, Frank Daniel Foley, IV of Los Angeles, CA, George Woodruff Foley of Los Angeles, CA, Leon Kleiser Camp III and his wife Janice Kyle Camp of Columbus, Charles Bond Camp of Maui, Hawaii, Betty Jinks Camp of Columbus, Debra Brooks Woodruff of Midland, GA, and George Cecil Woodruff, IV of Columbus. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the CSU Foundation at Columbus State University for the Woodruff Awards Program, 4225 University Ave., Columbus, GA 31907.
