Florence Gibson Patterson went into the arms of her Lord Jesus on April 29, 2018 at the age of 90. She was born June 25, 1927 in Phenix City, AL but moved to Columbus, GA as a child and remained there the rest of her years.
She was preceded in death by her husband and first love James “Jimmy” Carroll, devoted second husband Nathan Patterson, longtime friend Tom Meadows, parents J.W. and Eldora Gibson and her sister Dorothy Anne Posey (Kenneth).
The family celebrating her exemplary life includes her daughters Patricia Bovaird and Pamela Bryant (Chuck), grandchildren Jamey Robinson, Melanie Kite and Carol Bryant, great-grandchildren Carter Kite, Jon Kite and Alex Robinson, 3 great-great-granddaughters, nephews and cousins. She nurtured her family with her delicious feasts for all occasions, her contagious laugh, genuine love and her Christian faith.
Florence was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and a devoted Christian who always saw the best in everyone. She believed in being positive and investing her time and energy in building up the people around her. She was a delightful lady, noble in character and served her community with a giving spirit as she worked with organizations such as her church, the Columbus Personnel Review Board (past president), Soroptimist Business Women’s Organization of Columbus (past president) and Columbus Hospice (fund raiser, board member and volunteer). Royal Crown Cola Company employed her for 35 years. The majority of those years were in local human resources and national employee benefits.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Mark United Methodist Church or Glory Hospice.
Funeral service followed by a catered reception will be held at Striffler-Hamby 4071 Macon Road Columbus, GA at 12noon, on Wednesday, May 2, 2018.
