Denise Bliss Liesendahl, 80, of Columbus, Georgia, died on Thursday, December 23, 2021. A celebration of Denise’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, with a visitation at 1:00 PM and the service at 2:00 PM in the Edgewood Hall Chapel at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.
Denise was born in Nancy, France on December 12, 1941, to the late John and Suzanne Bliss. She graduated from Sylvan High School in Atlanta, Georgia and soon after married the love of her life, James “Jim” Liesendahl. Denise obtained her Bachelor’s degree at Georgia State College. Denise began her career working as a keypunch operator for the IRS. She retired as the Assistant Director of the southeast region for the IRS forty years later.
She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and had a passion for traveling. Her travel experiences carried her to Italy, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, Turkey, Croatia, and Greece. Denise’s love for animals was shared with Molly, her beloved feline companion. She often volunteered at the Columbus Animal Care and Control and Animal SOS, where she was known as the “dog hugger.”
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Suzanne Bliss, her sister, Margaret Bliss, and her husband James (Jim). Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Christopher Liesendahl (Vicki); three grandchildren, Katherine, Laura, and Anna Liesendahl as well as their mother, Heather Childers (Stephen); her brother John (Patrice) Bliss and their children Trey, Brian, and Tracy.
The family would like to thank the staff at Columbus Hospice House and the staff at Orchard View for the love and care they shown Mrs. Denise within the past year.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Columbus Hospice House and/or Animal SOS here in Columbus, Georgia.
