CMSgt (Ret.) Melvin Arthur Day, 71, of Columbus, GA died Thursday, June 2, 2011 at his home. A memorial service with full military honors will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, June 13, 2011 in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, 31907. The family will greet friends following the service. CMSgt (Ret.) Day was born June 11, 1939 in Carlisle, PA, son of the late Oliver Amos and Myrtle Beulah Wiley Day. He retired from the United States Air Force after 23 distinguished years of service, and was a Vietnam Veteran. During his career he was awarded numerous medals and commendations to include, The Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and The Vietnam Service Medal with One Service Star. CMSgt (Ret.) Day also retired from Aflac with 22 years of dedicated service as a Marketing and Planning Analyst. In addition to his parents, CMSgt (Ret.) Day was preceded in death by one brother. Survivors include his loving wife of 14 years, Lore Day of Columbus, GA; one son, Brian Day and his wife, Amanda of Cincinnati, OH; one daughter, Tina Marie Meyer and her husband, Bruce of Columbus, OH; two step sons, Jimmy Monroe and his wife, Debbie of Phenix City, AL, and Jerry Monroe and his wife, Angela of Columbus, GA; 11 grandchildren, Megan Day, Ashley Day, Brandon Day, Jagger Day, Elayne Hengesbach, Alexis Meyer, Chandler Meyer, Kyle Monroe, Faith Monroe, Austin Monroe, and Dakota Monroe; one brother, Lester Day and his wife, Donna of Plainfield, PA.
