Mr. Whitehurst was born on July 24, 1935 in Columbus, Georgia to the late Charles Thomas Whitehurst, Sr. and Virginia Hammond Whitehurst. He was a graduate of Baker High School and attended Auburn University. Mr. Whitehurst was retired from Western Electric Company (AT&T). He married June Morrow in 1956 and together they had three children: Wendy, Chuck, and Donna. He was preceded in death by his special friend of over 20 years, Jackie Whittington. He loved and was loved by many.
Every Sunday, Mr. Whitehurst walked across the street from his schoolhouse in Hogansville, Georgia to Hillcrest United Methodist Church, where he was a faithful member and loved his church family. He loved piddling at his schoolhouse as well as his home in Winter Haven, Florida and lake spot in Lakeland, Florida. In LaGrange, he visited with his friends at Burger King every morning for breakfast and will be warmly remembered for his daily lunch, sweet tea, and water in a to-go cup at Fried Tomato Buffet as “Hollywood.” He enjoyed traveling all over—to include Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Canada—and travel in his Airstream, as well as share an occasional frozen margarita to celebrate birthdays and special events. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. We will all miss him dearly.
Survivors include his daughter, Wendy June Travis of Columbus, Georgia and her family: Amanda “Mandy” Maholick (Mark) and their children Maddie Maholick and Matthew Maholick, Alexandria “Alex” Travis, and Bradley Travis (Victoria); his son, Chuck Whitehurst (Cynthia) of Columbus, Georgia and his family: Che`, Jacob, and Jyoti and her two children; his daughter, Donna Janene Marsh (Randy) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and their daughter, Shelby Marsh; his two sisters, Dolly Daniel of Hamilton, Georgia and Susie Rose (Billy) of Warm Springs, Georgia; son-in-law, Stephen “Steve” Travis; and Lisa and Billy Whittington (daughter and son of Jackie Whittington).
