A service to celebrate Mrs. Murphy’s life will be this Friday, January 7, 2022, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. visitation. Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Father Frank Patterson officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery.
Mrs. Murphy was born July 16, 1932, in El Paso, TX, the daughter of the late Manuel Avila Medina and Guadalupe Garcia Medina. She was a proud military wife and mother. She was always ready to pack and move to the next post. Mrs. Murphy was very talented with crafts. Mrs. Murphy was well known for her Afghans, sewing, and needlepoint. She also loved being with her family and working in her flower gardens. We will miss her presence daily, but her memory will live forever in our hearts.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Marlyn Murphy, her son, Michael Murphy, and one daughter, Patricia Sprung.
Survivors include three daughters, Angela Murphy, Tina Gafford (Bill), and Pamela Suhan (Howard), Son-in-law Richard Sprung and seven grandchildren, Melinda Cook (Steve), Stephen Sprung, James Murphy, Amanda Murphy (David), Brian Gafford (Gabby), Brent Gafford (Lauren) and Callie Sparks; one great-grandchild, Dylan Riley; longtime friends Fred and Maria Prieto.
