Beverly Ann Toney

Ann was born March 10, 1937, in Williamsburg, VA; the daughter of Erman Ellsworth Wiley and Alva May Moore Toney.

She was a member of the Class of 1955 at the Matthew Whaley School, in Williamsburg, VA. She attended 12 years of education at the same school and always commented, she was in the last class graduating from Matthew Whaley. She loved that school so much she always made it a point to visit when in Virginia.

Ann married Warren S. Toney on June 11, 1955, at the Williamsburg Baptist Church, Williamsburg, VA. They lived in Savannah Georgia during the early years of her marriage to Warren, later moving to Commerce, Georgia where she lived for over 50 years. She was self-employed and a hard worker throughout her life. Ann was always doing and giving to others. Never worrying about the circumstances, just keep pushing through. Hard working and always busy. Loved the Lord and strong in her faith. There for anyone when they needed her and rarely let anyone know her feelings or disappointments. Always optimistic even in the most difficult of times. Always tried to do the right thing; never smoked, drank or cussed and strived to be an example for her family and friends. She was always kind and supportive. One would be hard pressed to find anyone that would ever be able to say a negative or unkind word about her. She loved to travel, especially the beach, never got in the water but loved just to sit and watch. The way Ann lived her life, made others try to be a better person themselves, to be there for your family and friends, and that sometimes life was hard, but you just keep going and do everything you can to make it more enjoyable. She taught her family the importance of taking care of others and being at peace with your choices, to surround yourself with people that love you because you love them so much. To be kind and understand others struggles, and to always be respectful. Ann loved to sew, loved to fish and loved being outside and sitting in the sun with her wide brimmed hat. She always enjoyed gardening and loved the farm and seeing her family enjoy being there.

She loved her family, immediate and extended. Spending time with her family and friends was always time well spent. She was witty and logical, she would regularly say something that would make everyone around her laugh, and she couldn’t help but smile too. We could never sneak anything by her growing up. She would think it was funny that we would try, not really calling attention to the fact she knew. She kept up with everyone’s birthdays and never missed sending cards or calling. Ann was very smart, loved history, she could remember the details of everything, and her memory was sharp till the end. Ann was offered a full scholarship to William and Mary School of Law and choose marriage and a family over that opportunity. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church, Commerce, GA. Her faith in God and that no matter how hard life was in the end she would be with him. She spent her life trying to live in the way the Bible taught her and wanted that for her family and friends. She never said an unkind word of anyone. She loved Williamsburg and growing up there and always loved to visit and walk the streets telling stories of events that happened during her childhood. She loved Savannah and her memories there with her young family. Ann was the peacekeeper, the center point and connection between others. Beautiful but never vain, Quiet but determined, Giving and rarely taking, Always loving. Strong in all ways. Loved and cherished by many.

Ann is preceded in Death by: her spouse, Warren Toney; brother, Bucky Wiley; sister, Patricia Dovi; sister-in-law, Mildred Wiley; son, Jay Toney; and grandson, Chris Toney.

Survivors include: her son, Kim Toney of Commerce, GA; son and daughter- in-law Nick and Lori Toney of Maysville, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and William Lambeth of Columbus, GA; daughter-in-law, Patsy Toney of Commerce GA; sister, Eloise White of Fort Myers, Florida; sister Sherry Whittaker of Williamsburg VA; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
