SFC (Ret) Benjamin F. Wells Jr

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, April 27, 2012 in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, 31907 with Dr. Jeff Amsbaugh officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, April 26, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

SFC (Ret.) Wells was born October 21, 1934 in Philadelphia, MS, son of the late Benjamin F. Wells, Sr., and Jewel Z. Nicholson Wells. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of honorable service. SFC Wells was a Vietnam veteran and was awarded numerous medals and commendations which included the Meritorious Service Medal. He also retired from civil service after many years of service. SFC (Ret.) Wells was a member of the F.O.P., Georgia State Troopers Association, NRA, and Grace Baptist Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Sarah Lou Wells of Columbus, GA; one son, Benjamin D. Wells of Columbus, GA; three daughters, Phyllis Wells Gregory and her husband, Larry of Clarkesville, TN, Edna Renee Tucker and her husband, David of Winter Haven, FL, and Pamela S. Clolinger and her husband, Otis of Brandon, MS; eight grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
