Alexis Jayne McRae was born on Oct 5, 2008, and died February 8, 2024 in Columbus Ga. She was 15 years old. To her friends and family, she was known as Lexy (except to her Daddy, she was always his Alexis). After 4 years and 4 months of battling osteosarcoma with courage, determination, and strength, Lexy defeated cancer as she entered into the eternal presence of our Lord.
Lexy was extremely gifted and talented. She was a dancer, actor, and singer. Whether it was dancing on stage or down the aisle of the grocery store, Lexy was breathtaking to watch. Lexy was a competitive company member at Performance Dance Centre. She won multiple regional and national dance awards, including placing nationally as a soloist and being a top 3 national finalist for solo improvisation in lyrical. She also danced in Disney World as a Disney Young Performer. We will miss her living room recitals the most.
Lexy adored theatre, especially musical theatre. She participated in local regional theatres, Family Theatre and The Springer Theatre Academy. She attended Rainey McCuller School of the Arts as a theatre major. Her middle school performances include the leading role of Raja in I Never Saw Another Butterfly, Chil and Ka puppeteer in the Jungalbook. In high school, Lexy was a member of the award-winning cast of Memphis. Lexy was also a member of the school’s chorus department, singing in choral showcases and events. Lexy loved the stage, but her favorite part of theatre was getting to do it with her big brother Peyton.
Lexy excelled in academics where she was consistently in the top of her class and a principal honor roll student. She won the Rising Phenix Award for her strength of character and determination to overcome and achieve. She was Thespians Troupe President for middle school theatre, on the reading bowl team, and a National Junior’s Honor Society member.
What made Lexy so special was her heart for others. Lexy participated in many childhood advocacy organizations. She was a Rally Kid for Rally Foundation and raised funds for childhood research. Lexy won The Heart of Gold Award for her friendship to other children battling cancer and her courage while facing her own battle at the 2023 Ring the Bell Benefit. She was intentional in her kindness. She always wanted those around her to feel seen and valued. She was hilarious and had the comedic timing of a seasoned pro.
Lexy was a beloved member of The Ridge Church, where she participated in children and youth ministries. Lexy lived her faith and was a light in this world.
Lexy’s legacy is that of faith, family, and friendship. Above all else, family was the most important thing to her. She was a Daddy’s girl, her brother’s best friend, and her Momma’s heart.
Lexy is survived by her parents, Michael and Katy McRae (Columbus, Ga); big brother; Peyton McRae (Columbus, Ga); grandmother, Gail McRae (Fletcher, NC); grandparents, Rev. Chris and Jane Ramsey (Fitzgerald, Ga); uncles and aunts, Sean and Rachel Ramsey (Acworth, Ga) and Tyler and Maggie Reeves (Camilla, Ga); cousins, Nick Ramsey and Hudson Ramsey (children of Sean and Rachel Ramsey), and Candance Reeves and Paxton Reeves (children of Tyler and Maggie Reeves). She was preceded in death by her grandfather, John McRae, who is no doubt spoiling her in heaven now.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at Wynnton United Methodist Church, 2412 Wynnton Road, Columbus, GA 31906 on Tuesday morning, February 13, 2024 at 11:00AM. Rev. Jimmy McIlrath will be officiating services. Burial will be held at Parkhill Cemetery following church service. Family will visit with friends at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Edgewood Hall, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 on Monday evening, February 12, 2024 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM.
