Travis Patton George, 53, of Columbia, SC, passed away on December 16, 2023. He was born in Columbia in 1970 to Barry and Julie George as their only son and the first-born of three children. Travis was a proud and loving older brother to his sisters, Paige and Jennifer.
He attended Timmerman School and Cardinal Newman High School before majoring in History at Wofford College, earning his masters degree in Public Administration at Western Carolina University and went on to have a long career working for the state of South Carolina.
Travis’s love of sports began at an early age under his father’s influence. As a youth, Travis excelled in baseball. He was an avid golfer who could always be found on the golf course on his weekends and days off. He also enjoyed cheering on the University of South Carolina Gamecocks by attending countless football, baseball, and men’s and women’s basketball games over the years. Travis was also known for loyally supporting his Wofford Terriers, the Cincinnati Reds, Boston Celtics, and Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed following professional wrestling, especially as a fan of Ric Flair.
Travis will always be remembered for his caring and loving nature and the way he always thought of others before himself. He had a larger-than-life personality and we’ll always imagine hearing his infectious laugh while joking and having fun with friends and family. We couldn’t have asked for a better son, brother and friend, and will miss Travis every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Those left to cherish his memories include his father, Barry Blair George; sisters Paige Blair George and Jennifer Leigh Quattrocchi (Joseph); his beloved cat Spunky; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Travis was preceded in death by his mother, Julie Ronyecz George; grandparents Zolton & Anna Ronyecz; and grandmother Emily Degeneres.
The family will accept visitors on Wednesday, December 20 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home on Devine Street. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, December 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Travis’s name can be made to Pets, Inc.
