Columbia, SC formerly of Elizabeth, PA
There is a little less laughter, a little less mischief (maybe a lot less), and a little less generosity in the world. Dr. Stanley Joseph Douglas, affectionately known as Pap Pap, Doc, and Skeeter by family and friends was called home to Jesus on June 3, 2016. He drifted peacefully to Heaven surrounded by family in his home.
Stanley lived a remarkable life that set the standard for achievement and generosity. He grew up playing little league and participating in Boy Scouts. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout which set him on the path of lifelong service to his community. Stanley graduated from Westminster College in Pennsylvania in 1964, where he was a brother in the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. His summers were spent lifeguarding at the Buena Vista community pool. This is where he met his Sweet Linda. Together they embarked on a life journey that encompassed fifty years of marriage. Along the way, Stanley graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Dental School in 1968, and served as a Captain in the United States Air Force. He was a Mason, a Rotarian, an elected official, a staunch Republican, and the community dentist for forty years in Elizabeth Township, Pennsylvania. Skeeter lived life to the fullest. He was an avid golfer and hunter. He enjoyed volunteering at the local food bank and working on the chain crew at the Elizabeth Forward High School football games. Skeeter was a proud and loyal supporter of every local youth organization and served on the Light Up Committee which brought the lights to the Elizabeth Forward stadium. Skeeter was an active member of the Pitt wrestling club, a poker player, a scuba diver, a member of the Finleyville Snowriders snowmobiling club, a sports card enthusiast, a collector of coins, stamps and beer cans, and a die-hard Pittsburgh Steeler fan. Most of all, he was a devoted family man, graciously giving his all to make others happy. Stanley was always the life of the party and the first one to bed. Now he sleeps with the angels.
Born on October 8, 1941, Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Margaret Douglas of Boston, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Linda Rupert Douglas formerly of Sutersville, daughter Margaret Howard and son-in-law Justin of Raleigh, North Carolina, daughter Monica Glowinski, son-in-law Michael, and granddaughter Abigail Grace of Columbia, South Carolina. Stanley will be dearly missed by his siblings, Thomas Douglas (Debbie) of Modesto, California, Susan Douglas of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and David Douglas of Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He will be fondly remembered by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Stanley’s life was celebrated in a private family memorial in Columbia, South Carolina where he recently relocated to be near his daughters.
Donations in Stanley’s honor may be made to the Elizabeth Area Food Bank, C/O Elizabeth Baptist Church, 735 Bunola River Road, Elizabeth, PA 15037.
