Roy was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Korean War, a high school football coach and co-owner of All American Trophy Company who retired from T&T Sporting Goods after more than 25 years. A graduate of the University of S.C., he was a member of Sertoma Club, Deerfield Hunt Club, and was a longtime member of Northeast Presbyterian Church. Roy was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving are his wife of almost 70 years, Ann Osteen Sawyer; daughter, Phyllis Trippe (Paul) of Columbia, S.C.; sons, Val Sawyer (Betsy) and Mike Sawyer (Sharon), all of Columbia, and Scott Sawyer (Rhonda) of Georgetown, S.C.; 10 grandchildren, Mac Sawyer, Bishop Sawyer (Rachel), Landon Sawyer, Preston Trippe (Julia), Allie Trippe Barnes (Blake), Lauren Sawyer Foster (Cantzon), Meredith Sawyer Walker (Stevens), Ross Sawyer, Kelsey Sawyer Carter (Ben), Laurel Sawyer; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Cole Sawyer and his daughter-in-law, Stacy Sawyer.
A private memorial service will be held Monday, November 22, 2021. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
