A lifetime resident of the West Columbia area, he retired from the City of West Columbia Public Works.
Ever the comedian and quick with a comeback, he had a love for family and children. Most will remember him teasing them in the voice of Donald Duck and trying to imitate the unique sound. Although it may have been a few years, he loved his cowboy boots for a night of dancing and comfy shoes for go-cart racing. Country music, karaoke, Monday night wrestling and weekend NASCAR was a huge part of his world.
Robert was the son of the late Loris Maddison Birchmore and Flossie Irene Keisler. He was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Audrey Weems Birchmore; sisters, Edith Laster (Don), Mattie Bryant and Lois Thompson; brothers, Johnnie and Albert Birchmore, and survived by his step-children, Vera “Betty” Edwards (Cleve) and William “Bill” Jones (Donya); brother, William “Birley” Birchmore; and sisters, Patricia, MeLissa “Lissa” and Laurie Birchmore.
Grandad to Drew, Michelle, Casey, Haley, Taylor, Ryan and Chandler. He was known as Grand-Grey to Chandler and Uncle Robert or Bubba to a huge number of nieces and nephews, as well as greats and great-greats, he loved them as his own.
Also known as Bert, Bubba, or Cowboy, he was well loved and will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 26th, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29201.
