COLUMBIA Memorial service for Mary Wall Reed, 93, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends in Jackson Hall following the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mrs. Reed died Tuesday, May 20, 2014. Born in Jacksonville, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Irvin Hamilton and Sarah Hazel Stickley Roberts. After the death of her mother, she was adopted and raised by John Louis and Katherine Stickley Wall on Lady’s Island. She attended Beaufort County schools and the University of Tennessee. She was married to James Edward Black for 30 years. After his death, she married Wallace Litchfield Reed, to whom she was married for 34 years prior to his death in 2009. An active member of First Presbyterian Church, she was head docent at the Governor’s Mansion for over 25 years. In addition, she was a member of Current Literature Club.
Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Black Sanders of Columbia; a son, Andrew Gordon Black (Jane) of Livermore, Calif.; grandchildren, Evelyn Ribadeneyra (Mike), Bryan Sanders (Rachel), Jason Black (Cecile), Amy Black; great-grandchildren, Abbie and Grace Ribadeneyra, Ella, Coleman,Thomas and Andrew Sanders, Rose Black; stepchildren, Wallace L. Reed Jr. (Caroline), Edwin C. Reed, Susan Reed; stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
